Details on Gearbox’s Aliens shooter are thin. But excitement is thick. So let’s address both those issues with this preview for the game, which touches on story, setting and the use of cover.
Originally appearing in PlayStation World UK, this preview - now up on Games Radar - reveals that the game is split into six chapters, and that in each chapter you’ll be taking command of a different member of your six-man squad. Each mission, then, you’ll be getting flashbacks and back-story on that particular marine, which should flesh out the story and give you plenty of chances to scream NNNOOOOOO when they inevitably start falling to the xenomorph’s advances.
The preview also says that you’ll be able to use adaptive cover in the game, ordering squadmates and other personnel to do things like weld entrances and move furniture to seal off (or just slow down) the aliens. And when they do get through? It’s time for combat. Combat that isn’t always a straight-up fight, and instead occasionally becomes a scripted, QTE bug hunt.

We’re told that Microsoft may have one trick left up its sleeve and greatly anticipate that Sir Howard Stringer of Sony will say something that will have us scrambling for the most savory headline.

On the heels of Microsoft’s bundle, Sony has announced its own bundle for multi-platform Resident Evil 5, complete with special RE5 design console.
The “Premium Limited” pack comes with a Resident Evil 5 logo 80GB PS3, two DualShock 2 controllers and a copy of the game. Priced at ¥48.980 (US$525), the bundle goes on sale March 5 in Japan.


In the US, you have to pay for a demo of Killzone 2. Crazy days. In Europe, however, it’s the demo will be free. Which is good news for Americans!
Yes, Americans. It’s not good news for Europeans, because the second you start treating the fact a demo is free as “good news”, you’re fucked. So…carry on, it’s business as usual
No, it’s good news for Americans because this is a handy workaround to the “no free demo in the US” thing. Just create a European PSN account (if you don’t already have one), and come February, when the demo’s due for release, you’re good to go.

From images we’ve seen, Dead Rising for the Wii looks light in the brain-eating zombie department. But that doesn’t mean it skimps on other things.
Things like, well, outfits for photographer Frank West to wear. “One surprising thing was feedback from people who liked the ability to change Frank’s costume,” says Dead Rising Wii producer Minoru Nakai. “So, this time, we’ve made it so that you can change into more costumes.”
Yeah, because changing into costumes is way more important that killing hordes of the walking dead in a zombie game. We’re being harsh. Shame on us! Developers Relic - otherwise known as “they who can not put a foot wrong” - have released both the minimum and recommended specs for Dawn of War 2. Worried? Let’s take a look.

Take note of those, look at PC, make of it what you will. All I know is, I meet those recommended specs and then some, so i’ll be busy the next ten minutes or so high-fiving myself.

Oh boy. Looks like the sale of 1UP to Hearst hasn’t gone as smoothly as you’d expect. Rather than simply move house, it seems most of the site’s most experienced/popular writers have instead been let go.
Looks like when Ziff CEO said “Many of our employees will travel with this business and become part of the UGO team”, he actually meant “we’re taking the interns and tea lady and that’s about it”.
According to twitter posts, GAF posts and phonecalls to MTV, around 30 staffers were let go today, including Skip Pfister, Ryan O’Donnell, Philip Kollar, Jay Fresh, Cesar Quintero, Nick Suttner, Anthony Gallegos, Matt Chandronait, Shane Bettenhausen and former EIC James Mielke.
Also cut were most of the Gamevideos.com team, as well as production of the 1UP Show.
Leaving, what, Sam Kennedy and Garnett Lee? That’s a day of long knives if ever we’ve seen one.
